HOW TO WEAR YOUR KILT

The Kiltpin hassle-free guide on how to put your outfit on. Firstly put on your  shirt and cufflinks  leaving your top button of your shirt undone for ease while you are dressing. Next, put on your  hose (socks)  making sure the ribbed line of your socks are straight going up your leg. The garters go around the leg below the knee and can be adjusted for comfort. Make sure that the tartan flashes on the garters are on the outside of the leg. Turn down the sock to cover the garters and leave a couple of inches of your flashes shown. The top of your sock should be mid calf which is four fingers down from the centre of your knee joint. Depending on whether you are right of left handed, the  sgian dubh  (knife) fits inside your right or left sock on the outside of your leg. You should leave a couple of inches of the sgian dubh shown coming out the top of your sock. Now the  ghillie brogues . Take a lace in either hand and t

The Skilt story

Hi, my name is Richard.  I am the designer, sample maker, model, webmaster, and sales manager here at Skilt .  Together with the production team in our Bethnal Green workshop I aim to bring you excellent quality kilts that are eye catching and practical to wear. How it started I bought my first kilt in about 2002 – a cheap black one that I just wore to go clubbing.  It wasn’t until 2007 while I was on holiday in the States when I saw my first contemporary kilt with press studs and pockets – a Utillikilt.  Upon returning to London I went online and ordered me one.  I loved it.  I wore it around town and loved the reactions.  I was hooked. One day I was looking down at trousers of my pinstripe suit and I got the idea to create a pinstripe button-up kilt.  I bought some fabric, my friend showed me how to thread her sewing machine and, many hours later, I had made my first kilt.  It was a little short and a bit rough around the edges but I was happy with it.  In fact people’s reactio

How to measure yourself Before buying a kilt

C - Waist Size. This measurement is taken around the waist at naval height then measured snugly. D - Seat. Place your feet together then measure the broadest part of your hips. E - Inside Leg. This is your normal inside leg measure. If you do not know measure a pair of your own trousers. F - Kilt Length. Kneel on the ground, place the tape on the floor then measure up to you belly button. Please don't look down as this will alter the measurement.
